I am having some issues with the Abit IC7-G motherboard. I have 2 CD-ROM devices and 3 hard drive devices connected in the following.

The Primary Master has my Western Digital 120GB harddrive eith WinXP O/S installed The Primary Slave has my Maxtor 60GB harddrive

The Secondary Master has a Pioneer DVD-RW Model A06
The Secondary Slave has a Lite-On CDRW drive

I also have a third hard drive (Quantum Fireball Plus LM) hooked up through your Serial ATA conversion adapter. This is the drive that is giving me problems. All of the drives are detected in the BIOS and will show up in Windows. The drive on the Serial ATA adapter will show up (sometimes). When the drive decides to show up, WinXP will go through a scandisk with the blue screen and reboot - The drive will be there for a little while and then mysteriously disappear. The message I get is a "Windows - Delayed Write Failed"....

I originally had my O/S on the conversion adapter and the same thing happened and WinXP told me that files were missing and wouldn't boot, so I had to hook it up this way............

I have the latest BIOS version which I periodically update through the Flash menu.

BIOS VERSION: i875P-W83627H-6A79BA19C-17
Flash ROM Type: PMC pm49LF004T /5V
BIOS Build Date: 08/21/03

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.......

only the Serillel-2 version (as opposed to Serillel or Serillel-1) of the adapter works on this board. in theory, that is what you have if it came with the board but it is worth mentioning.

are you sure that the drive is healthy? any chance of impending drive failure? have you used the manufacturer utilities to ensure that the drive is okay?

RTFM. The Serillel converters only work with ATA100 and ATA133 hard disks. The Quantum drive is an ATA66 unit so it's hardly surprising it doesn't work properly. Connect it to one of the conventional parallel ATA ports instead.

BTW, you *don't* have the latest BIOS for your motherboard. ;-)

Richard,

what newer released (not beta) bios is available for the IC7 other than 1.7 (8/21/03)?

Didn't say it wasn't a beta Tom. Always makes me chuckle when someone says they've got the "latest" BIOS, drivers or whatever, as in many cases it's merely the latest revision *that they know about*. In this case there have been two betas of the 1.8 BIOS since 1.7 was released.

cool... just making sure an "official" released version didn't sneak past me...

Only if he spends too much time in the pasture....

Is that even possible? ;-)

uh, sure! I snooze at the wheel once in a while... at least while the "wheel" is the computer!
