Is there a way to change the Front Side Bus multiplier on an IC7?

It isn't working with my P4-2.4GHz...As far as I know the 2.4GHz has 400, 533, and 800, and the P4 I have has an 800. However when installed on my IC7 (which was their RMA replacement for the IC7-G that I sent them, go figure...) it shows...

On bootup:
Shows (processor name) and FSB as "(200x12.0)"
Also shows "CPU error, CPU is missing or has been replaced, please check CPUSoft"

In the BIOS:
CPU Operating Speed = 2400(200)

So for some reason the motherboard is using a x12 multiplier.

How can I change this on the IC7? Nothing in the BIOS menu shows me a multiplier that I can change, which is pretty strange...

Do I need to update or something? Maybe I have a completely different problem?

Please let me know and thanks in advance...

No, only the fsb speed, not the multi. It's locked on all P4 systems.

Ever hear a P4 described as "quad-pumped"? The 400 runs at an fsb of 100, the 533 at 133, and the 800 at 200.

I don't know who "them" is, but I'd insist on getting an IC7-G back if that's what I sent them. You lost money and features in the swap.

All that is exactly what it should say for a P4 2.4 800 fsb cpu. 12x200=2.4ghz. Remember "quad-pumped"?

You can't change it, and that's the way it's supposed to be. See above.

Probably just need to clear the CMOS by unplugging the system and changing the jumper -- then setting all the bios options again.

Please let me know and thanks in advance...

Hope it helps.

Not unless you have an unlocked "engineering sample" CPU.

You were expecting otherwise?

That's correct.

Also shows "CPU error, CPU is missing or has been replaced, please check CPUSoft"

You only need to go into the Softmenu and confirm the settings to remove that error.

In the BIOS:
CPU Operating Speed = 2400(200)

Yes, and?

So for some reason the motherboard is using a x12 multiplier.

It's using a 12x multiplier because your CPU has a 12x internal multiplier - and always has done.

How can I change this on the IC7?

You can't - at least by any other method than changing the CPU.

Nothing in the BIOS menu shows me a multiplier that I can change, which is pretty strange...

Not remotely strange. All retail Intel CPU's from the last five or six years have had locked multipliers.

Do I need to update or something?

To do what? You seem to be seeing a problem where none exists. What exactly do you think is *wrong* here?

Maybe I have a completely different problem?

What problem do you think you have? The multiplier being reported by your
2.4GHz Pentium 4 "C" is correct.

you cannot change the cpu multiplier as that is fixed in the cpu. you can change the preset cpu or go to a user defined cpu you can also set the NB to 533 or 800, depending on what the cpu you have installed run at but that just affects the various multipliers that are available for the FSB:DDR speeds.
