Hello,
Does anyone else have this combo and a solution? Abit IC7-G MB, BIOS 1.5
2 sticks Corsair PC3200 256meg RAM
Abit Siluro FX 5200 128 meg Video Card Western Digital 40 gig Special Edition HD w/8meg cache P4 533/2.66GHZ CPU
Thermaltake Spark 7
Thermaltake 1000D case
Samsung CDRW/DVD combo

The hard drive has dual boot with Windows XP Pro and Win98SE. The hard drive will boot with the Serillel 2 adapter installed and hooked up to SATA 3 with Silicone Image Controller enabled. BUT, if I move it to SATA 1 or 2, and disable Silicon Image, enable Onchip SATA, in enhanced mode, with IDE, and no RAID, it will NOT boot from this drive. It does not even see the drive. Any one else have this and has found a somewhat easy solution?? I have not yet tried re-formatting the drive and re-installing everything from scratch with the floppy disk and F6 during XP install. I have tried ALL settings on the Onchip SATA, BIOS 13, 14, and SATA 2. BTW, I do know that the Onchip SATA works with RAID because I can enable RAID and hit CTRL I during boot, but since I only currently have 1 drive attached, that is as far as I can get. ANY SOLUTIONS OUT THERE???? Thanks very much. Harry Card

I still don't understand why the board does not see the drive on SATA 1 or
2. Having worked with you a little on this, unless there is a problem with the ICH5 controller...

when you enable the raid bios, does it see the drive then?

Hi
I had similar problems when I mixed my IDE and SATA. it wouldn't recognise the SATA drives in SATA1&2

I did a CCMOS (clear cmos) and it all quite suddenly worked a treat, recognising the 2 SATA drives and the 2 CD's in the IDE2.

It might be worth a try

Regards
Jerry

GOOD GRIEF, and a BIG Thank you to TomG and Jerry for all your great help. IT was a matter of clearing the CMOS by using the jumper and Voila, it worked great and the WD HD now shows up and boots. Halleluhah!! Now I just need to save some money so I can purchase some more hard drives and RAM and on and on......THANK YOU AGAIN. Regards, Harry Card

Well, Well, Well, Something is not right here. I cleared the CMOS jumper and the WD Hard Drive is seen in the BIOS, UNTIL that is, I change the CPU speed. It seems as though the BIOS does NOT save the settings. The hard drive was working on SATA 1, until I upped the FSB to 140 and then it was NOT SEEN by the BIOS any longer. Cleared the BIOS numerous times, and changed the CPU speed again, and again, the hard drive not seen in the BIOS. At one point, I enabled the RAID ROM and it was seen and set as bootable. But it did not last. ANY IDEAS as to whether this is a BIOS problem? or just what. I went back to putting the hard drive on Silicon Image controller and SATA 3, and leaving FSB at 140 which gives me 2.8GHz and it works well. I have always been impressed by ABIT, and hopefully a new BIOS will come along and solve all these minor glitches... Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated. When I cleared the BIOS and enabled Onchip SATA, I also enabled IDE Bus Master. Is that wise or not? Thanks everyone for assisting. Regards, Harry Card

...

Harry Hi
Ummm, sounds very odd, why change the FSB to 140? It seems to work quite well at 200..

I have found that just by setting the CPU speed to the auto setting after a CCMOS everything worked great. I generally disable the RAID as I dont use and then leave most other settings as default. This worked with my SATA drives

in the soft menu I use by CPU and by SPD, the IDE Bus maser is left disabled..

I havent had any problems with my BIOS which is version 15, I have two IC7G's a IS7E and a BE7 working perfectly, although none are OC'd.

Don't know what else to offer.

Jerry
