Hello,

I'm a newbie to overclocking and have had some initial success but now I'm stuck.

System:
Motherboard: IC7-G with latest BIOS
CPU: P4 2.4
Memory: PC-4000/500MH
Timings: CL 3-4-4-8
Brand: OCZ

I started by gradually raising the FSB from 200 to 260 at 5 MHz increments. The system ran Prime95 error free with the FSB set to 250 yielding a speed of 3.0GHz. The CPU/Memory ratio is set to 1:1. CPU and Memory voltages are stock.

Running the FSB at 260 produces errors with Prime95, so I tried changing (lowering) the CPU/Memory ratio to 5:4 and lowering the FSB to 250. When the machine boots it emits a high pitch scream and I have to turn it off, and clear the CMOS before starting over. But it seems that no matter what other settings are used, if the CPU/Memory ration is 5:4 the machine screams when it boots.

I though that lowering the demands on the memory might solve the Prime95 errors and allow the FSB to be increased, but no go. This seems strange since the memory appears to be running well at 250MHZ, but causes problems at 200MHz.

Are there any other combinations of setting that anyone can suggest to solve this problem. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

I would have thought that you should have been able to lower the memory bus speed as you tried to do without issue. you may want to set the NB to 800 manually as opposed to "By SPD" (can't remember if you already were forced to do that to set the ram ratio or not...) and just as a temporary setting, set the memory timing manually to the highest numbers in each category as opposed to "By SPD" and leave GAT/PAT to Auto.

See what that produces and if you can get going, then you can slowly reduce the ram timings. raising the DDR voltage to 2.7 or so is frequently helpful as well.

Are you running Motherboard Monitor? That set off a screeching alarm on my rig. Could be a bios temp warning, not sure. But I would set your CPU/Ram ratio to 1:1 at 250 and call it good. "Old Egypt" wrote:
