Hey All,

I've just tried to build my Abit IC-7 and when I turn it on I get a looping long beep. My PC specs are as follows:

P4 2.4Ghz CPU 800Mhz
1x 1GB Corsair 266MHz DDR ECC Ram
1x S3 Diamond Vipper II
1x160GB Western Digital HD

To eliminate possible problems I've tried booting with just the CPU installed and I still get the looping long beep. I get no video and I've tried reseting the BIOS.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I think this ram mayby too slow. Afair minimum DDR 333... Long beeps almost always = memory error.

I've tried removing the video card and memory and I still get the beep errors. With just the CPU installed I still get the error. I've tried plugging the memory into other slots with no luck.

I thought the card supported 266Mhz memory
(http://www.abit.com.tw/abitweb/webjsp/english/faq_letter.jsp?pDate=2003%2F0 5%2F15&pQUESTION=Does+ABIT+IC7+series+mainboard+support+DDR266%2C+DDR333%2C+ and+DDR400+in+single+and+dual+channels%3F+%0D%0A%28+IC7-G+%2F+IC7+%29) says it does.

Is the single long repeating beep indicative of either no memory or non supported memory?

The CPU fan is connected to CPUFAN1 on the motherboard.

Have a look in the Bios, possibly under PC Health Status and if you have a "Fan Fail Alarm" setting, try disabling it.

I can't get to the BIOS because i get no video. I've looked to see if the system and cpu fans are spinning and they are.

Try powering up and holding down the "insert" key. This should get you to the bios.

That was going to be my next suggestion, or try a clear cmos and try again.

It's all the bios settings for the board, ie clock speeds, memory timings, etc etc, if you do a clear cmos it resets them all to defaults, so, lets just say you had overset the FSB and clocked your processor too high, this now is stopping your board from booting. Clearing cmos will reset to safe defaults and allow you to boot again. Some motherboards allow you to boot whilst holding down the <insert> key on your keyboard, this boots it into safe settings but as soon as it boots you need to go into bios and make sure your settings are correct.
