IC7-MAX3 Silicon Raid VS pci raid card

Discussion in 'Abit' started by Serge Goyette, Feb 9, 2005.

  1. Configuration
    Abit IC7-MAX3
    P4 3.2 Nortwood
    1G ECC Kingston
    Win XP Pro SP2
    IDE1: WD 120g and WD80G
    IDE2: LG combo 52x32x52 and LG DVD-RW
    Radeon 9550

Running a raid 0+1 with four WD Raptor 36G on the Silicon onboard chip with
    block size of 64.

Is ther a better block size to increase the performance or will a PCI raid
    card give me better result.

If PCI raid card is the way to go, any recommendation on a relialable and
    fast card.

    Thank you

  2. You may find that a smaller stripe size (32 or 16K) will improve RAID 0
    throughput.
Not unless you want to spend a lot of money.
There's little, if any, point. You will only gain a significant performance
boost by spending a stack of money on the controller, and you'd almost
certainly need a new motherboard to get the most out of it.
