Hi all,
New build, had trouble with IDE DVD drive not booting properly as master on IDE 1 but cured by moving to slave on IDE 2. W2k installed (No SP yet) 3 SATA drives, all maxtor 80Gb units one on SATA1 and the others on SATA3&4

Installed W2k on SATA 1 when I try to launch disk management or any other management console including event log, the main window opens but I cannot view the properties for anything. closing console tells me to close all properties page as if it were open but it is not. Any idea's please?

just sounds like a hosed OS install for some reason. have you tried a fresh install again or maybe a reinstall on top of the already booted OS (in other words, run the Setup from within the OS)?

The reason for that will be the IDE/SATA controller setup in Integrated Peripherals. If you set the SATA controller up as RAID, it will function as a completely separate entity from the standard IDE ports. However, in combined mode, the SATA ports take over one or more of the IDE ports, depending on how you have the BIOS configured.

Slightly moot point now you've got it working via other means, but worth knowing for future reference. :-)

Got all the drivers/chipset updates installed? If not, put 'em on, along with the latest service pack and updates.

Eventually did a re-install followed by SP4 update. The problem turned out to be with the graphics card drivers, a Radeon 7000 ... Haven't put the drivers back yet, don't want to risk stuffing it up again. The box is only a server so GFX not important.

Many thanx Trev

Thanx for the advice, the SATA was setup in auto mode not using RAID for ports 1 & 2. I'll assume that auto detection determined that port 1 would be SATA and Port 2 PATA in my current config.
