Until yesterday, my system consisted of the following:

Lian Li PC60 miditower, modded 120mm blowhole and 2nd 80mm rear exhaust Abit NF7-S v2.0, BIOS 1.9, Nvidia 3.13 chipset drivers AMD Athlon XP 1800+ T'bred B, 1.875 Vcore (BIOS), 10.5*220 Thermalright SLK-900A, 92mm Vantec Tornado (via fan controller), Arctic Silver 3 Corsair 2*256Mb DDR466 Crucial Radeon 9800 Pro, Catalyst 3.9 Enermax (EG465AXVE-W-FCA) 460W PSU 2*WD HDD/2*optical drives, floppy

Temps, using low rpm on the Tornado, where generally 42C CPU/28C system - not bad under full load (Folding 24/7) on a 2.3GHz machine.

Yesterday, I relocated the internals to a modded Lian Li PC75 full tower (80mm side intake fan, 2*120mm blowholes with Delta fans via fan controller). The hardware was reused with the following exceptions:

- fan changes as listed above
- new floppy cable
- new SATA cable
- added 3*CCFL lights

I also cleaned and reseated the CPU heatsink, applying Arctic Silver 5.

I now find that I cannot run the PC above stock Vcore, without encountering the infamous 'siren' noise accompanied by an instant shutdown. My temps seem fine (32C CPU fully loaded but at 1.5Ghz now) and I'm at a loss to understand this. I've not previously had the 'siren' problem at all. And, of course, I'm keen to recover the lost MHz!!!

The PSU is only 6 months or so old and I would have thought was well up to the addition of another few (low power) fans and a couple of CCFL light strips.

Any thoughts? This is more than a little frustrating...

TIA...

A
