Is my KG7 dead?

I swapped my KG7 out of my old midi case in to a small tower I had lying around. I mainly did this for easy of access for changing components, installing new hard drives etc. I plugged everything back in and went to turn on the power. Nothing. I swapped the power cable around, nothing, change RAM slots, nothing, tried a different power switch, nothing, unplugged hard drives, nothing, uninstalled all PCI/AGP cards one by one, nothing, tried different power cables, nothing.

Arrgghhhhh.

Then I took this as an excuse to buy a proper new case, so I brought myself a shiny new Chieftec. Plugged everything in and tried all of the above but still nothing. I then plugged in an old PII board to the PSU. This span up no problems at all.

So I have changed nothing apart from the case. I have even kept the same power supply. One minute it is working, the next - nothing.

To me this sounds pretty dead, but I just wondered if anyone could spot something I haven't tried, or even shed some light in to what went wrong, from one case to the next?

Any help is much appreciated.

Chris

I would go back to what used to work - your mobo in your old case. If it works you have to figure out what is different in the new setup. If it doesn't work you have to figure out what has broken.

try the mobo out of the case on a safe work surface (non-conductive) with the cpu, ram and video installed. no other cards, no drive ribbons, no front panel leads and see what happens.

I would look around very carefully in the "new" case to see if any mounting studs are positioned in such a way as to short the board out to the case.

If I read your story correctly I think I would also try the board out of the case to see if you broke it while you were moving it about.

Good luck, Bob Troll

Right, Tom (they) should print (tha)t on the front cover of every manual out there ! Reading mine right now looking for typo's LOL NoJOB@aol.

you may not find a typo but plenty of mal-formed English. In all fairness, I'd hate to be asked to write a manual in any Asian language!
