Hi

Intel 2.4GHz w/ hyperthread
Kingston 512MB (KVR400X64C3A/512) in slot 1
Western Digital 60GB Ultra ATA100, 7200rpm (WD600JB) on IDE1 Abit Siluro GF4 TI4200-8x 128MB video card

On power up I see:
------------------------------
Phoenix-Award Bios V6.00PG
Copyright (C) 1984-2003 Phoenix Technologies LTD
Main processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 1.2GHz (100x12.0)
Memory Test: 524288K OK
CPU Brand Name: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.4GHz
Hyper-Threading Technology CPU Detected (Hyper-Threading Technology ENABLED) memory Frequency for DDR400 specifications Host/DRAM frequency is 100/125MHz AGP/PCI frequency is 66/33 MHz

Primary Master: WDC WD600JB-00fsa0 77.07w77
Primary Slave: None
Secondary Master: None
Secondary Slave: None

CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded

Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup
04/11/2003 - i865PE-W83627-6A79AA1BC-10
---------------------------------------
The HD LED lights up momentarily during this and I here it spin I here the strandard system "beeb" and then imeadiately after that I here a very short "beep". Then thats it. The system does nothing after that. I have tried the F1 & DEL keys with no luck. I have tried several times to clear the CMOS my moving the jumper as decribed in the manunal.

Any suggestions?
One thing I noted was that line above that decribes the Intel CPU at 1.2GHz. that seems to imply a problem right there. comments?

thanks in advance
sean

are you using a USB keyboard? if so, the default setting for USB support is for the OS to support the keyboard and mouse so you won't have any keystrokes getting to the bios to have it see the DEL key. if this is the issue, you'll have to connect a PS/2 keyboard to get things going and then you can try setting the keyboard (and mouse if needed) to BIOS for USP support.

if you are not using a USB keyboard, then I'd still verify that the keyboard is being seen by the system. I have seen where the back plate or case was interfering with the keyboard plug causing an incomplete connection...

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I do havge a PS2 keyboard. I verified the connector is fully seated. Any other ideas? Do you suspect a faulty CMOS chip? Maybe I shoulf RMA the 'board?

Go into your bios and check your CPU speed, it is probably wrong - change it and all should be fixed. "Sean" wrote:

if you try it out of the case on a safe work surface and get the same results (and have swapped the keyboard as well) then yes, I'd consider an RMA.

if you check his post, he says he cannot get into the bios setup.
