I connected the HDD LED cable to the correct port according to the manual, but my IS7 is not showing HDD LED activity at all. Flipping it over does not work either.

Curiously, when switching to the two pins above it, the HDD LED lights up permanently, regardless of whether I'm idle or working.

I am using (2) Seagate 80GB SATA drives in Raid 0.

Anyone else having issues with the HDD LED using SATA RAID with their IS7?

Thanks in advance.

No LED for SATA activity here. (Single WD 120GB SATA)

LED works fine with the 120GB WD IDE drive I have on there.

Ditto the other users...the LED's is bunk.

BIOS error? Definitely another nail in the coffin for Abit....such simple pleasures we ask.

I don't agree that this is a nail in the coffin - I'm happy with the IS-7. I have more interesting things to do than watch the LEDs on the front of my tower blink.

I would not be surprised if Abit relseases a bios update and all is well.

You'd just have to understand that only one of the last eightAbit motherboards I've built didn't have either leaking capacitors, bad HDD LED's, cold boot issues, etc....

Admittedly, the blinking HDD LED isn't a big deal to me, but pretty damn embarrassing when you build one for a customer and they ask you why their new computer can't even blink a LED like every other computer on the market!

Ah - I understand now -- hard to sell a system with this condition. I hadn't thought of that aspect.

I remember a few years back my BE-6 would leave the Num Lock LED lit on the keyboard even when the system was turned off. The next Bios update fixed it.

I hope the same will happen with this - either way I'm still very happy with the board.

Good luck!

The one I wrote about had the Gigabit adapter (G series, IS7G).

Still afflicted with this annoyance AFAIK.

I should add though, that if you can live with annoyance, it is in every other regard a great motherboard. Very fast, stable, and feature rich....they just can't seem to figure out how to make a one cent LED blink.

personally, I would not let the LED function dictate whether I bought a board or not. hopefully, the LED function will be corrected with a bios update but the features are what is important to me.

I also agree with Tom.

If I were to consider buying a new board for personal use, this board would still be in contention. The IS7G really is a good product, and is easily the fastest I've ever built (the four WD Raptors in RAID, 3.0GHz HT CPU, and 2x512Mb Corsair XMS LL all helped out as well)

Perhaps Abit is trying to spare us all from having more blinking lights to distract us from what is really important in our lives?

... about buying a IS7G

All,

I was just on the Abit site visiting the forum area and there was a similar post about the HDD LED not showing SATA activity on IS7 motherboards. It appears new IS7 boards that are revision 1.2 work correctly according to a few posts I read there. Apparently, it required a hardware fix to solve the problem. For what it is worth the two IS7's I've built both don't show any SATA activity and are not version 1.2.

Ok - Now I am really confused as Abit lists v1.2 and v1.21 SATA drivers available from their site so is a v1.2 mainboard actually a board that comes with updated drivers or is there a actual hardware revision v1.2 that just so happens to have the same version number as the driver update???

the drivers are really keyed to the version of SATA bios that is flashed to the board with the mainboard bios. you should match the two version together and also use a version of the Intel Application Accelerator - Raid Version (assuming you are setting up a raid but maybe even if not) that is intended for use with that bios and driver set as well.

Ok - So if I ordered a IS7-G V1.2 is there such a thing as it is not listed that way for the IS7-G on abit's site but the SA7 is listed as having a V1.2 at http://www.abit-usa.com/downloads/bios/p4.php so it just looks like there is no IS7-G V1.2 listed or specified???

Confused as Can Be!

in all honesty, I have not followed the version numbers of the IS7 boards. I have to say that Abit has not really been using that type of version convention that I am aware of... a look at how the IC7 board evolved would be an example.

Yes, but it is still nice to see what is happening.
My brother got a Medion, nice machine, but the only indicator it got is the power on, none for hard drives or DVD drives

Hi, lol that's true! who needs GHz CPUs and benchmark braking performance when you can't have a cool LED flash on and off! I don't have any problems with my SATA RAID set-up and the case LED, works fine, are you *totally* sure you got the pin-out header correct for the HDD activity light? (it can happen!). . .

I got no problem with my set up at all, I got an Abit NF7-S and all lights work fine even the suppend light, ok, so it is using the turbo light on the case, but I know what it means :-)
