I am thinking about buying a IS7 or IS7G and would like to know if the memory modules must be installed in pairs or will it run one stick of 512M PC3200. Also anyone reporting sound problems with the onboard sound????

Some people report static when the mike input is enabled, but I've never used it. Onboard sound is adequate for most uses on my IC7, if you're an audiophile or home theater buff you'll want something else.

You can use a single 512-meg stick of ram, but it won't be dual-channel. Not a big difference, but then neither is the cost of two 256-meg sticks. I went for the latter.

you can certainly run with one stick but not in dual channel mode

Thanks for the info - Dual mode must be selected in bios I take it if you use dual channel mode, so with dual selected and two 512 modules installed does the system see 1G of memory or just 512m that runs faster in dual mode?

the board will have better performance with dual channel. you do not select or enable the mode in the bios. the board automatically enables dual channel mode when it finds that two or 4 closely enough matched pairs of ram sticks are installed.
