My system has been up and running for about 3 weeks now. Below are the details:

CPU - 2.4 GHz 800 MHz FSB Pentium 4
Mobo - Abit IS7-E
Memory - 512 MB PC3200 DDR400 Memory
Video - ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB
HD - Seagate Barracuda 120GB HD (using SATA)
PS - Duro 400W Dual Fan

Everything was working fine until my DVD player took a dump today. So I opened up the case, took out the old one and stuck in a Samsung 16X DVD player from another machine. Closed it back up, hooked up all the cables and turned it on.

NOTHING.

Opened it back up, checked all the connections to make sure I hadn't knocked anything loose. Nothing.

Checked here and the forums at abit-usa.com and narrowed it down to the mobo, cpu, or ps.

The green 12v light does go on, but not the red. When the power switch on the ps is first turned on the nb fan and the cpu fan both rock (though don't turn completely). I'm taking this to mean that the ps is ok, though I'm going to verify tomorrow by trying in another system.

That leaves the cpu and the mobo. I've done the "out of the box" testing and nothing. I'm more inclined to believe it is the mobo, rather than the cpu, but don't know what other tests I can do.

I did flash the CMOS a couple times and it had no effect either.

Is it just time to get a new mobo?

TIA

how can you "flash the CMOS" when the computer won't even boot? do you mean clear the CMOS (using the jumper)? I'd say the PS is a good place to start, personally.

Yes, sorry.

I hope you're right.

Tested ps in another system and it works. So now I guess I'm back to the mobo.

another system of equal load? try booting your IS7 with no cards in the slots except the AGP card and unplug all external loads that are not critical such as fans (except CPU fan) and drives. even the boot drive can be unplugged as you are only interested in whether you can get the system to power up.

No it wasn't an equal load, but it did boot no problem.

Did that - nada.

Took my dvm and tested the atx connector- all voltages were as they should be. Tested the 12V connector - got 12V. Tried shorting power on pins on mobo, nothing. Tested voltage - trickle.

At this point I'm putting on the mobo. I've ordered a new one, from Asus. I'll RMA the IS7-E and either sell it or use it to upgrade my oldest machine.

The machine that the problem is in now is my htpc and my main DVD player. I can't wait for the whole RMA process in order to get it up and going again...I've got Matrix Reloaded to watch!
