I just got this board set up and the guy who set the board up put the HD and DVD drive on IDE port 2 and the Writer on IDE port 1, i just tried to change the boot order and the system wouldn't boot at all. It works (only works) if i have it configured the way the guy set the board up.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to reverse it?

System is:

IS7E Revision 1.1 Bios 16
2x256MB PC2700 (Temp. from old PC)
P4 2.26b (Temp. from old PC)
Western Digital 80GB JB (Master)
Sony DVD Rom (Slave off HD)
Lite-on 52x24x52 (Master by itself)
Audigy 1
On board Lan enabled.

Just to clarify current set up is Lite-On on IDE 1 and WD and DVD on IDE 2. If i change it the computer refuses to boot at all and if i put it back it works like normal.

If anyone has any ideas i'd really appreciate any advice you can offer.

First question: Why do you want to change it? It works, and with a modern controller there is no penalty for running HD and DVD on the same channel. It's actually a good choice for direct burns from the hard drive or DVD-ROM.

Second question: What do you want to change? When you say boot order, do you mean changing the bios to boot from one of the opticals, or are you trying to physically swap the drives from channel to channel? Either should work.

I'm trying to switch from channel to channel and it won't detect the drives if i switch but it i switch it back to the original configuration then all is fine, but right now i can only have a HD on the second channel and not the first channel. I know it sounds odd but the HD should work in either channel don't you think? I don't think this is too much to ask from the board.

You still haven't answered the first question. Why do you want to do it?

Bottom line, yes, you should be able to do it, but no, you have nothing to gain from it.

I suspect it's a bios thing. The system expects the boot drive to be where it was first installed. You should be able to simply swap the cable ends from the ide connectors and force the bios to redect them.

In the interest of simplicity, I'm going to put future replies in one of the other threads you started in alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit

No sense having multiple people posting redundant suggestions in different groups.

Hey i never got answers so i tried different newsgroups, i have fixed it sort of, i now have the HD on Ide 1 and the DVD/CD Writer on Ide 2, i had to remove the jumper off the WD HD, still can't get a slave to go but at least i know that the board is ok, thanks for the replies.
