So I've got an ABIT IS7-G (865PE) with a P4 2.4C and a Tyan Radeon 9700 Pro. 2x256MB Corsair XMS PC3200C2 in dual mode. 2 seperate 120GB WD 1200JB running from the SATA ports. I've ran 3DMark 2K3 a few times and keep getting about 3500. I turned all the settings to performance in the control panel for the 9700Pro and then only got
4000. I SHOULD be getting 5000+, what gives? I can run the CPU at
2.4GHz or 3.0GHz with no change in the 3DMark score at all. Both speeds are stable. I'm running WinXP Pro new install on this machine. Everything is absolutely new and installed from scratch with all the updates on the OS and drivers. Sound is an Audigy 2. Can anyone offer me insight? AGP is set at 8x in the BIOS. Help please, let me know what information I can give you. Do I need to turn all the control panel settings to performance to get high scores? Thanks.

5000+? Really? why do you say you should be getting 5000+? from what I have seen, 3DMark2K3 is a tough cookie. have you tried 3DMark 2001 SE just to see what you get there or another method of benchmarking like frame rate in a game such as Q3?

With a 9700 pro on an AMD XP1800+ I get >5000 in 3dmark2003

Yeah...cracks me up that people don't mention their driver settings....hehe

I'm mostly basing 5000+ on systems with exactly the same specs. From logs I've seen I most definetly should be getting 5000+ in 3DMark2K3. Thoughts?

okay... I just knew the numbers from 3D2K3 were a lot lower than previous versions. I actually had no idea what the numbers should be. I was also trying to get the point across that maybe there would be benefit in seeing how other indicators looked.

well, with GeForce cards I have seen folks having slow throughput when chipset or video drivers were loaded but did not take for some reason. I use a GeForce myself so I am not as up on the various drivers available for the 9700 but have you tried any different (if available) versions? are you sure your chipset drivers are the most recent and loaded okay?

have you tried any of the other benchmarks or using a game in timedemo mode to see how you're doing?

If you are comparing your score to the online database you need to realise many of those results are using overclocked and often modified graphics cards and every trick and tweak going.

Yes, I'm aware of this. I don't mean to be a brat but really, let me say again "I'm comparing my setup to others JUST LIKE MINE." i.e. apples to apples, not apples to oranges. The online databases show CPU and graphics clock speeds so it's really easy to make comparisons. Almost like they databases were built to do just that! Wow.

Okay, sorry, I'm just getting sick of people asking if I'm sure that I'm comparing my system to an equivalent system. I am. Now that that's over, anybody got some suggestions?

1. Have you tried relaxing memory timings slightly to see if you're on the ragged edge.

2. There is a Beta BIOS 13.3b floating around that drastically improves performance (beyond that of the Canterwood boards). More to come on this...

Okay, did a removal and reinstall of the Catalyst drivers and that did the trick! I now have a score of 5469 in 3DMark 2K3. =) All is as it should be. Now I'll try the beta3 bios out. Thanks all.

cool! seems like the ATI card is still the champ for current releases..

wow, you know how to add things up! and you answer is correct!!!!

really, he should be benching like 4200, but he probably hasn't done a fresh install of windows. 5000+ is reserved for Radeon 9800s, GeForceFX 5900s, and extremely overclocked Radeon 9700s, Lemon

Not so. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro, PIV 3.0c with everything except the DIMM voltage at default. My minimum 3DBench2K3 is 5100 and I have hit 5200.

No, sorry, but you really don't know what YOU are talking about. I should have been benching over 5000 and am in fact now benching over 5500 in 3DMark2K3. This IS on an absolutely fresh install of XP Pro. All it took was a reinstall of the drivers to get me over 5000. Here is my compure URL: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=909726. I've seen 9800s getting 6000+. I've even seen some overclocked 9700 Pros up in the 6000 range. Anyway, sorry for the 'tude but it sort of gets me when I've done my research and people who haven't say I don't know what I'm talking about. I do. It's really easy to do a comparison with others running exactly the same hardware. Peas.

yep i'm running the aiw 9700pro on a p4c800 and wit cpu/ram 1:1 i get a little over 5200 so u r correct.. 4200 when ram is running less then 1:1.
