I have a Wind River SBCPowerQUICCII board with a MPC8260 processor and a jtag/cop interface on the board. I have no hardware nor software for this interface. From my googling I found out I could make a jtag to parallel port adapter pretty easily or get a jtag to usb adapter. My question is what exactly I could do with the jtag interface and a very simple adapter ? Because I saw some fancy hardware for controlling the cpu through the jtag interface (e.g. Wind River visionICE) and I m not sure if this indeed needed for what I am trying to do or if there is an easy way also. Could I get some cpu status, read some registers or this needs a fancier hardware, not just a simple adapter ? Could somebody point out some free software I could use with this in order to get some status from the board ? Thanks
