I've just bought new system.
- ABIT KD-7Raid
- AMD Athlon XP2400+
- 120gb Western Digital
- ASUS V9520 Geforce FX

You can imagine my happiness when I'm installing OS and the system freezes. This is with plain settings, no overclocking or anything. I try again, it freezes. (This is about where I go WRARARAR)

I decide to sleep on it, and when I woke up today and turned on the power, my pc greeted me with beeping. Turns out the processor is burned and developed a nice little bubble. (I go WRWRARAR again..)

I bite in the sour apple and bought a new processor, this time a boxed XP2200+. Plugging it in, starting it up, everything works perfectly, fans are spinning, no beeping. I'm happy, but NO! Screen is completely blank! I'm sure you can all imagine my happiness!

Anyhow, I try resetting CMOS (using jumper, removing battery etc.), using an old PCI GFX card, using another RAM chip, unplugging everything else attached, checking all vid cables. No luck whatsoever, the screen is still blank.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? I'm thinking the MoBo is defect, unless any of you have any idea of some weird setting anywhere that could cause this, I'm returning the mobo as soon as possible.

Anyone, help?

How did you burn up the CPU? What power supply do you have? What memory?

I don't know how it burned, it shouldn't have. I have a chieftec dragon medium tower with a 300watt psu I think. The RAM is a 512 mb TWINMos PC2700 CAS 2,5.

I set the bios for the rigth CPU setting, so I think something might have been broken.. Heh :)

Going to return it now

Most likely that power supply isn't up to the job, that is not a good power supply for that system. Take the motherboard out of the case and lay it on a "non-conductive" surface such as a board and try booting it from there. If you get the same thing try a good power supply 400watt or above, like an Antec 430watt True Power that was designed to run a system like your trying to build.

Turns it was the memory after all... Blah

have you, or someone else, idea on why ram caused the CPU to burn up? i recently had an xp2400+ burnt on a KD7 (no raid)... (no overclocking!)

ciao

One possibility is the power supply going south...
