By default the XP 2600+ 333 fsb version runs at 2.08 ghz and the 266 fsb version runs at 2.13 ghz.I am sure this has been asked before however presently unable to locate an answer.
If the XP2600 comes unlocked as standard, what setting in the BIOS (DM) on KG7-Raid do I need to get the 2.133Ghz?
Thanks.

See Multiplier Cross reference in link below.Hank,
I understand what you stated, but the KG7-Raid only lists upto XP2200 in the bios, what I need to know is the high multiplier factors valid in this machine. As in if you unlock the XP2400 (266fsb) using track cuts etc, then the BIOS shown 8x multiplier is in fact 16x.

Wes,
I take it my assumption is correct then. A multiplier of 8x in the bios is really going to give me 16x, thus 16x133mhz totalling 2133mhz.
No harm in trying since I am not 'hacking' and anything, just fitting a new processor

Yep. That's what it should be. 8x133.34=1066.72MHz.Installed XP2600 into the KG7-Raid, set the multiplier to x8 and FSB to 133mhz.
Result, boot screen reported 1066mhz speed.
If it weren't unlocked, you wouldn't have been able to change the default 12.5 multiplier. If you are wanting to use the higher multipliers, you'll have to set the default on the cpu to 13 or higher. With the 2600+333 model cpu and the default of 12.5, 8 is 8, not 16. If you had gotten a 2400+, which has a default multiplier of 15, then 8 would have been 16. What do you want to do with the 2600+ in your board? Thus I guess the XP2600 I have isn't one of the 'unlocked' ones.

The default speed for the 2600+ 333 is 2.083GHz. The 2600+ 266 is 2.133. You obviously have the 333 model if the default multiplier is 12.5. You can confirm this by the part number. http://www.amdboard.com/amdid.html To get the max speed out of this cpu, you are going to have to have access to the upper multipliers. There's several ways to do that. 1) you could mod the cpu. 2) You could add a switch to the MB to control the 5th multiplier bit. 3) You could use the wire in socket to pull the 5th bit high. If you want a 16x multiplier, then you would set the multiplier to 8 in the bios and pull the 5th bit high using one of the above methods. I'm not sure if the KG7 board is like the KT7A board, but if it is, a 16x multiplier won't work with a 133Mhz FSB without another mod, so your best bet may be to try a 17x (9 in bios) multiplier for 2266Mhz. You may need a little more vcore for this. Another option would be to mod the cpu for a 16x multiplier and then lock it by cutting all the L1 bridges. This will work without question, but it also locks the multiplier on the cpu. Whatever you decide, I suggest you read and understand this before proceeding. http://www.beachlink.com/candjac/TbredDecode0.htm#TableWes,
Ok, what I wanted was to get the 2.133Ghz that it's supposed to be able to do, if possible, without 'cutting / tampering with' any part of the CPU itself. I don't feel confident enough to do this sort of action.
The 2400+ (same core) would have worked without problems, but I wouldn't go to the extremes of selling the 2600+.The unit was a freebe, so I suppose I could sell it and try to cover the cost of an XP2400 which I understand will be a very good option.
Alll replies should be under the question. Top posting is not considered good.Out of interest, what is the preferred method of posting in newsgroups, bottom post or top? I think I'll be asking quiet a few questions in here.
