I installed Linux on a single IDE hard disk on IDE-3 (a RAID port) but can't
seem to boot Linux up on it. I've set the BIOS to boot to the ATA100RAID
device and set this hard drive to "Boot" in the HPT bios but it still won't
boot up Linux. Will this only work if I configure the hard drive as a RAID
device? Can you configure a single hard drive as a RAID array of one? Has
anyone had any luck in installing and then booting up an operating system on
a hard disk connected to the RAID ports (IDE-3 and IDE-4) on an Abit
    KG7-RAID motherboard?

If that's the HPT372 controoler, then there was a problem with booting
from it. I had no problem with the HPT370 though. I thought they fixed
that problem, come don't recall for sure. One thing is for sure though. I
won't buy another board with an HPT controller, or another HPT controller
    card.
