Help!

My home computer for the past 2 years is malfunctioning! It is a kt7-raid non-tweaked setup running raid0 with two identical Fujitsu disks. The only HW-"near" change I have done in the past year is usage of external USB-disk and USB-printer.

I believe the BIOS is reporting a UL version.

Symptoms:
RAM gets counted OK (512)
BIOS seems OK
RAID disk is reported
Interupts get listed (Input NA is OK?)
Verifying DMI Pool... hangs.

I removed all external HW except power mains and keyboard. Same result. I removed the keyboard too: I get one step further - Verifying DMI Pool... Verified. Then the system hangs.

Booting a DOS5.x from a floppy is OK except for not being able to see my harddisks...

Anybody with a solution for this that will save my system, preferably without loosing data?

The usual suspects are the capacitors on this model.
Check for bulging and/or leaking caps.
This picture shows bulging caps:

If they are formatted in NTFS, they will not show up in DOS (except as a non-DOS partition in fdisk). Neither will partitions starting above the 8 GiB limit.

There's a good FAQ and troubleshooting guide for the KT7 at http://www.sudhian.com/showfaqs.cfm?fid=2 There's a lot of possible fixes in the boot section.

Re-install your OS. I know this sounds like a cop out, but it will usually solve this problem.
Do you mean that reinstalling W2k will 1)function 2) not kill my data on the disks?

search google groups for a *lot* of postings about this issue.
I know, but I looking past the Windows ME and win98 problems I did not find very much of direct interest - or I must have overlooked it.

Thanks for the tip

Would I be able to boot of a floppy if bad capacitors is the root of my problem? Dag
