I have a KT7A RAID M/B with a Athlon XP2000+ cpu (The chips only running @ 1250). I've had the board for a few years and am looking to upgrade and get the full speed out of my chip.

Any suggestions for a replacement ?

Would like to stay with RAID if poss

Thanks

If the CPU is the B unit, then you can unlock that babe and get 2.4ghz (24 x 100fsb) if you have sufficient cooling. We have XP1800 unlocked and clocked to 1.9ghz, cooling an issue.

See other posts in here about unlocking the CPU, specificially guys Wes Newell, and Thomas Geery.

The 1.9ghz unit is the missus, and the CPU came from a mate who bodged his 'unlock' of the CPU to my advantage as I 'fixed' it with some conductive silver paint.

Other than that the XP2000 will happily run in the KG7-Raid, then board I have. My preference would have been to obtain a KR7-Raid.

Errr... You might try setting the FSB to the proper setting of 133 instead of the default 100. You should then get the proper speed out of the cpu.
12.5x100=1250MHz, 12.5x133=1566MHz.

That should be 1666Mhz. Typo.

I have the R1.1 board, prior to Rev1.3. I have no option for 12.5 in my BIOS. Only 12.5 above. When I set it to that it freezes and I have to clear the CMOS

Think new M/B may be easier. I don't fancy messing around with the Chip, call me a wimp if u like.

What BIOS are you running? I have the same board, only rev. 1.0 running the A9 BIOS. I have a Palomino 2000+ running at default settings with no problems.

As another option: what happens if you set the clock speed to 133, but change the muliplier to 12 or 11 (if it isn't locked)? Will that make it run?

How about your RAM? what clock spped are they set to run at? If you have PC100 RAM, and it's set to run at the same speed at the CPU FSB, that might be the reason for the lockups.

Then you have some kind of problem. Ram, cpu, MB. My guess would be ram or ram settings. It runs OK at 12.5x100, correct? Changing the FSB to 133 also changes the Ram memory bus to 133Mhz increasing access to the ram by 33%. You may need to lower your ram timings.

Well, replacing the ram and MB is one way to fix it unless it's a cpu problem. Of course if you don't set the new one up right, it won't work either.

I'm running the A9 Bios. My RAM is PC133 & the chip is a Thoroughbred

XP1800 (normal 1.533ghz) now at 12 x 150Ghz in bios DM stable at 1.8Ghz.
