Leadtek FX 5900 Ultra - slow fans?

Discussion in 'Nvidia' started by Nick (no dashes), Nov 27, 2003.

  1. Hi,

Deciding that I want to make my PC as quiet as possible (as I can
normaly hear it from my bedroom which is annoying when trying to sleep!)
    have taken the following steps:

    1) Replaced my $10 crap PSU with a Antec BluePower 480W. Resulted in no
more black screen reboots and vibration problems gone. Great. Now I can
    hear CPU fan.
    2) Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu installed on CPU. Great - another noise gone, and
CPU is running much cooler...can't get above 48 with SETi before it was 59.

Now the FX5900 is the only noise. Now, I remember that it used to be
quiet until I jumped into a game and then it reved up. Now it runs fast
(and noisy) all the time. I'm using the 53.03 drivers - is there any
chance they have broken the fan control? I'll try a Leadtek driver again
(45.33 being the latest which absolutly suck performance wise) but is
there anything else you can think of?

What made you use the 53.03 drivers instead of the latest "official" 52.16?

Has the problem with the card frying under a 3D screensaver been fixed in
    current driver releases?
