Linux on Dell Precision 650 with SATA drives?

Discussion in 'Dell' started by Akop Pogosian, Dec 5, 2003.

  1. One of our users wants to buy one of these systems with SATA drives
and run Linux on it. Unfortunately, Dell does not offer this
configuration with a Linux distribution pre-installed yet because they
claim they haven't tested Linux with SATA drives yet but they said it
might just work if we install Linux on our own.

We feel uneasy about buy such an expensive workstation without knowing
in advance whether Linux will work well. Did anyone here tried Linux
on Precision 650 with SATA disks yet? What are were your experiences?

    They should: http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/1787 But I didn't know
Dell offered anything with Linux anymore. If you have purchased a
distribution, why not ask support there?
Don't blame you, but users always want the latest and greatest and
Linux must support that to remain viable.
