Maxtor's Powermax

    Hi,
I'm having erratic problems with the diagnostic floppy disk of Maxtor,
    http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/powermax.htm

Sometimes it boots normally and performs all tests, sometimes it boots and
when I run powermax.exe it says that I don't have any hard drive, and
sometimes it doesn't even boot: it hangs after displaying "Caldera DR-DOS".
What's even more frustrating is that I spent most of the afternoon making
binary eliminations (that PC with that HD, with or without a second drive,
master or slave...) and I failed to identify a single cause that would
    reproduce the problem.

    Anyone experienced the same problem?
Or is there another similar diagnostic software for Maxtor disks, perhaps
    older versions of Powermax?

    Thanks for any advice.
