I'm considering upping the CPU from an AMD 2000+ to a 2800+ 333 FSB. I purchased standard Corsair memory and never overclocked under the 2000+ CPU. I'm thinking I may work on OCing the 2800+, nothing extreme, just a little extra boost. The memory I have is:

What is the big difference between this memory and the next step up with the heat spreader (besides the heat spreader itself for heat dissipation)?

http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80060

Instead of investing in another 1Gb of memory with heat spreaders, I was considering just adding a heat spreader to the existing RAM:

Any advice? I'd also like to leave the recommendations strictly to the RAM at this point and not really on the other components, just to focus the field of the topic.

Thanks.

The one without heat spreaders is only rated at cas 2.5, while the one with heat spreaders is rated at cas 2. The chips on the cas 2 strips have been tested to run at a lower cas then the ones without the heat spreaders. Better chips.

The heat spreaders would make absolutely no improvement to your existing RAM, other then it might look better.

I think the main reason they cover the chips is to make it look cool and to cover the name of the company that manufactured the actual IC chip. Most people would become suspect when they drop 300 bucks on Corsair memory and see Samsungs name plastered all over the chips. I am suspect myself on just how much heat is dissipated by that cute 10 cent "Heat spreader"... There is no thermal paste or any other kind of contact insuring system under them and anyone that has been involved in the manufacture of PCB's know that the height of the IC's varies from chip to chip. If there is no contact between the IC and the "heat spreader" than the spreader will actually retain heat. Go figure...

I use Corsair by the way...I am not a jealous product slammer...
