I've seen all the posts for overclocking memory, but am looking at 2 sticks of Corsair CMX5123200C2PT memory when I get my IC7-G (and not planning on doing any serious overclocking with it).

Any comments/suggestions on the choice?

Thanks

Is the Corsair on the Abit compatibility list? I use the generic Kingston, dual channel optimized DDR400 and it's on the list. IS7 regular board here. Alex

Your choice as it stands is fine, the Corsair stuff is very good. However, as your intention not to do any "serious" overclocking may change, it might be worth getting something a little faster so you've got headroom to play if the mood takes you. ;-)

Not sure if Corsair in on the list but I have 4 * 256Mb Corsair sticks in mine.

Which board are you using with four sticks of ram? Is PAT enabled?

On my IC7, PAT was enabled until I went from two sticks to four, then Sandra showed PAT disabled and memory benchmarks dropped 800 points.

I'm looking for others with similar, or dissimilar, experiences for comparison.

Actually, I looked for a compatibility list, but didn't see one. I'll look some more to try and find it.

Thanks

OK. So, it sounds like the brand is OK then.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info, Richard. I thought about that too--maybe getting the 3500 (or higher) stuff, just to be sure.

I am running Corsair XMS3500 (2 512 Mb sticks) in my IC7-G...

Will putting 4 sticks of ram enable the dual channel mode of does it have to be two sticks only in the 1+3 or 2+4 slots? Reason I am asking is because a friend of mine is selling his Corsair Twinx 512mb (2x256) ram and I wanted to get another of the same set to push the 1 gig mark. Sorry I'm still kinda new to dual channel.

Dual channel works with either two or four sticks on an IC7-G, but be warned four sticks might disable PAT. That's not a huge hit, but it's not ideal.

Unless you really need a gig of ram, I'd go with 2x256.

four sticks should still run in dual channel mode but will frequently raise the latency of the system to the point that PAT (Performance mode) is disabled.

or 2 x 512 for a gig... that is what I run with dual channel and PAT enabled.

Does the 4-sticks-of-ram-disabling-PAT issue have anything to do with the type of RAM used? Is better quality ram less likely to cause this to happen, or is it some sort of deficiency of the motherboard itself?

I've just ordered an IC7-G myself with 2 sticks of 256MB each, but I was strongly considering going with 1GB.

I went with 1 Gb as well but did it with two 512 MB sticks. I don't think the kind of ram being used has much to do with it but I could be wrong. the extra latency induced by having all 4 slots filled seems to be more of the culprit.

I only use two sticks of ram in channel 1and 3 or 2 and 4. As Tom said, 2X512 will work just fine. Just remember to bump the DDR vol. to 2.7 or 2.8. I don't care for what anybody else might tell you. What works, works. Ram likes voltage, OC or not. My system is RACKED , and no reboots. IC&-G Max2

I'm not going to go into the specifices as all Computer builders know what I'm talking about. What blows my mind is the failure of the simple act of READING the MANAUAL. Even doing so, you need to investigate what needs to be done, what you need to do,and have the right equipment to do such. "RESERCH PEOPLE". I REINTERATE. "RESERCH"
