I just bought an ASROCK K7VT6 and am having a lot of trouble with the
memory. It could be the board, but this is my second board ( returned
the other one.) I have an older PC2100 memory with 16 chips on it.
This works fine in another MSI KT400 board, but will not boot at all in
this board. The only memory I have gotten to work is some good CL2.5
memory that my son has. Is it possible that the board requires CL2.5
    to work.

Is there any good place to go where i can get info on the different
    memory types and specifications.

Have you checked the DRAM CAS Latency setting in the BIOS?
I suspect you have timing issues with your older memory. Try it at 3.
