new to this forum, having prob with laptop

    hi, im new to this forum and i am having problems with my laptop.

    when i start up my dell 700m laptop everything is fine until XP loading screen, then my monitor turns black but i still can see the imagine of loading screen faintly and log on screen. sometimes it will make it to desktop then turn black. i am wondering if this is a dead monitor or some other problem. i would try to use s video but i cannot switch it unless im in properties. since i cannot see anything that idea wouldnt work. also the FN CRT/LCD button doesnt seem to change it to S video. please help
