i've mounted old creative annihillator pro in nf7 (gforce 256 ddr gpu). it runs :), no smoke and sparks so it goes at 1.5v. But....it's fan don't want to run :( heatsink goes over 50 celsius and if the things goes that way i'll see some smoke. Is the fan failure caused by too low voltage/current supported by nf7's agp or it just died of natural cause ?

Can you plug the fan into a separate header on the mobo? Otherwise, replacing it shouldn't be hard.

Take the fan to any computer shop for a match, or you can order a cheap third-party card cooler.

Still another option is to remove the fan but keep the heat sink, and mount a fan parallel to the card blowing across it. (A bent slot cover with a couple of holes drilled to screw on a 60 mm or 80 mm fan works nicely.)

Actually orginal fan was replaced when it died a year ago. The new one (third party) works nicely on abit be6-2 (probably old 'heavy-working' 3.3 agp.) but now it silents. Unfortunatelly the power cord of the fan is too short to connect it to onboard fan power supply. Also place for addinational case fan is just above agp slot, but gpu is placed on bottom side of the card...

I wonder if I work without any fan. I run the computer whole last night and nothing bad happened (yet...;-/ ), but I didn't stressed GPU by any 3dmarks or games, just working in windows. How much the temp can rise playing 3d games? I'm going to buy something new to power up my comp in a few weeks, like GF4Ti(4800). Any suggestions about buying new graphics card (I want spend about 80 euros)?

thanks for help

Benchmarks and games do stress the video card more than normal Windows operations. Some people manage OK without a fan, but you won't know whether you are one of them until you try.

As far as a replacement card goes, I'd suggest a Radeon 9500 or better for best image quality, good all-round performance and full DX9 support. In addition to the ATI-branded cards, there are less expensive alternatives from Sapphire, Hercules, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Club 3D, HIS and others that will do nicely.
