I've just bought ABIT NF7 mbo and assembled my computer. Installed Win XP and SP1a. After that, installed mbo drivers. When I install drivers for Exair ATI Radeon 9200SE 128mb my computer locks up with black screen. I've tried same thing with Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9000 64mb, same thing happens. both VGA cards work perfectlly on another system, so they are OK.

I have also tried installing graphics drivers before mbo drivers and radeon worked, but as soon as i installed mbo drivers things got ugly again. Removing mbo drivers doesn't help, so i am stuck at the beginning.

Question:
Is there problem with mbo? I have latest mbo BIOS, drivers, latest ATI drivers. I thought maybe there was conflict with another hardware so i disabled integrated audio, usb and lan. Nothing happens.

Another problem i've had with NF7: BIOS doesn't automatically recognize correct frequency for DDR. (tried Kingmax 400mhz 256mb & no-name 333 mhz 256 mb <- not at the same time, of course). memories are automaticaly recognized as 266mhz.

CPU is AMD Athlon 2400+

Ideas?

Strange !

I use abit NF7, radeon 9200 LP with 128 Mb.

Windows XP, and SP1, and all updates.

But I use of course the new catalyst drivers 3.9 from ATI

http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=18&submit.y=7

I also use the new nforce drivers from Nvidia:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_3.13

and I use the SW IDE drivers.

My cpu is barton 2500+, 11x190 with crucial pc2700 ddr ram.

I use the next newest bios I think (no need for applebread duron support).

best regards

John

Thanks for reply. I did some shuffling with hardware and drivers, and Radeon 9000 (Gigabyte) now works. I've downloaded latest drivers and flashes three days ago (I don't know versions, I'm not at home now where computer is). Maybe latest catalyst drivers solved my problem for 9000 and not for 9200SE.

Anyway, i'll keep R9000 and will see how R9200SE works somwhere else.

Please answer me this: did your motherboard recognize memory frequency automatically or did you have to set it manually in BIOS?
