Finally got my NF7-S (Vr. 2.0) to work. But I still need some help:

I am using an XP 2500+ Barton with L3-3 and L3-5 cut (from a previous use on the KT7A-RAID).

Have been getting only 1.74 GHz (less than the performance I had on my KT7A-Raid where I got 2.0 GHz with the above cuts...!!)

Questions:

1. Should I bridge the L3-3 and the L3-5 of the CPU or it wouldn't make any differtence ?

2. What is the exact setting of the BIOS "SOFT MENU III" which should get me above a 2.3 GHz...? Would appreciate a specific and clear reference to each line in that BIOS menu - Thank you.

3. How exactly would I identify the version of my BIOS ?

Thanks.

ZR

NF7-S Vr. 2.0

Hi, XP2500 will run up to speeds of a 3200 and beyond, it maybe that cutting the bridges are having a negative effect with your new board. I'm running one now at stock 3200 settings, 200fsb * 11. To get more you can either increase the fsb or the multiplier, watch your temps though and you might also have to increase the vcore a little. Also have you the lastest bios for your motherboard? Thank you Chris,

Could you please do me a fvaor and go line by line in your BIOS's first page and write down your settings for me (only the first SOFT MENU III SETUP page).

Which brings me to another question, the No. 3 below: How woul;d I know exactly waht is my BIOS version. I copied all tyhe numbers from the sticjers on my MB, but can't say which is the one showing the BIOS version...

If your MB supports the full multiplier range then there's no need to. If it doesn't (and I don't think the Asus board does) and you want access to the lower multipliers (up to 12.5) then yes, you should close the bridges.

2. What is the exact setting of the BIOS "SOFT MENU III" which

Set FSB to 166 and multiplier to 13.5. That will get you 2250Mhz. If you can lower the multiplier to 11.5, then 11.5x200=2300MHz.

3. How exactly would I identify the version of my BIOS ?
Usually shown on boot, but couldn't really say how for sure on this board since I don't have one.

Wes, my MB is not ASUS it is ABIT NF7-S (Vr. 2.0). I assume it supports from X5 to X22 (according to the Mnaual).

I just went and changed the multiplier from X5 to X6 and the system would not start (Balck screen...) My External Clock is set to 133.

I had to hard Flush (jumper switch) the BIOS to get back...!????
