What kind of memory does the NF7-S rev 20 mobo use? Registered, non-registered, ECC, or non-ECC PC3200 memory? What brand of memory works best with this motherboard?

Thanks!

Registered and ECC is the same thing...Anyway you want the regular non-registered / non-ECC stuff. I think most brands of memory will be ok. If you want ultimate performance go for something like Corsair, I'm running 2x 512MB Corsair modules in my NF7-S. I've also built a syatem using Twinmos which worked fine too.

ECC and Registered are not the same thing. Try here if you want to know what the terms mean:

It's a little out of date but Abit publish a test report for most of their boards. These contain information on compatible memory modules:

What about shopping sites that claim the NF7-S requires 6-layer memory or CAS 2.5 latency? There also seems to be a big difference in pricing. Some PC3200 256MB sticks cost like $38 for Samsung but other memory is around $53 per 256MB stick. What's the difference?

This memory speed disparity, that is getting more and more common everyday, needs to be investigated by the Federal Trade Commission. It is way out of hand. PC2700 memory **is** being sold as PC3200 memory.

I installed kingston hyper-x pc3200 cas 2 modules into my sons nf7-s rev2 board and it runs great. I'm waiting for my own nf7-s to be shiiped to replace my crappy aopen ak79d-max which is also using the kingston hyper-x ddr memory. Don't skimp on your memory or you'll be sorry so it's better to pay a little more now and get decent stuff.
