Hi all
I'm now on my second NF7-S v2, my first one was doa (not completely, but almost..). Now, the mobo posts fine, even recognizes my ram as dual ddr400, so far so good. But I can't access bios, and the pc just sits there showing the post screen...
System:
Mobo+
xp2500+ barton
2x 512mb twinmos dual channel ram
ati radeon 9500pro video
fortron/source 350w psu
swiftech cpu cooler with pabst n2g fan
HD connected
FD connected
bios version is 17 (not able to flash to 18)

Any ideas, could it be the psu is not powerful enough? Tried powering on with insert pressed, bios where reset before startup, tried with only one piece of ram, nogo...

Remove everything apart from...

CPU + HSF
1 Stick of memory
Graphics card

Then try

My guess, from what you have written, that it is related to your hard drive as I have seen just the same thing happen.

Update:
It's definitively something with the IDE detection, when I disconnect the HD entirely, it works fine. So now I just need to figure out how to enable the hd...

Was it on the SATA or the chipset controller?

It was on the chipset controller. I owe an apology for posting this question here, I was a little bit to quick in posting, as I was able to solve this very easily from previous posts here and from the abit forum at nforcershq.com. All I had to do was to disconnect the hd from the mobo, because it was on ide detection that the bios froze. Then I could update bios to version 18, and the bios freeze on ide detection seems to have been one of the problems bios release 18 fixed. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Morgan and everybody else here for all tips and tricks when I had the previous nf7-s. When I got the new one (bought from a local shop), everything went really smooth (except of course for the slight problem mentioned above), and the mobo is running fine now. I haven't installed all my hardware yet, but I don't expect that there will be many problems. I will be returning the broken nf7-s to the retailer soon, maybe have it swapped for a new HD (SATA :-) ). Getting the new mobo restored my faith in abit, the first one definitively has a problem, the new one runs my (relatively) cheap twinmos pc3200 dual channel ram and my xp2500+ barton just fine. I think I just have to try to clock it up a little bit, it idles on 35degC, and we can't have that, can we now? Not sure if the ram will cope though, but we'll see...

BIG thank you to all who contributed...

Kjell
