Hi,

In order to upgrade the firmware of my DVD writer (Sony DRU500A or more exactly the dw-u10a), I am supposed to disable DMA for this drive before attempting the upgrade process.

Unfortunately, I can not find in the device manager settings (IDE controllers, etc.) any 'Advanced Setting' where I could enable/disable DMA. Could anyone tell me how can I do it ? [I heard safe mode was not using DMA.. Could i then use Safe Mode formy upgrade process?]

I have a NF7-S board with WinXP Pro and a Sapphire ATI9600Pro video board.

NB: I tried to go into the BIOS and disable the setting 'auto' for 'Integrated Peripherals'/' OnChip IDE Device'/'ONChip IDE2 Controller'/'Master Drive UltraDMA', that I set to disable. (I did nothing else in BIOS). But the result is that my video board was not working anymore (??) and I had to uninstall totally video drivers to get it workin again...

Thanks a lot for your help!
Eric

I think I remember doing my firmware upgrades from windows. The bios is not what you need to change. go back into the bios/integrated periphs/ide chip devices and reset to auto/enable. go into into windows device manager/IDE ATA-ATAPI controllers/primary or secondary and set the properties/advanced settings to pio only for both primary and secondary, reboot. this disables dma.
