Morning,

Just built a new system with an NF7-S, XP 2500 Barton, 512 Megs of Crucial PC3200 Cas 2. XP Pro installed beautifully and I set about installing the chipset pack from the ABit Website. All installed fine but when I rebooted, the system froze on the WinXP Screen.

I tried the drivers on the MB CD Rom and the same happened. I have since managed to install them all individually (I think) but I can not see any form of AGP driver in the System Devices. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I missing an AGP driver?

The Benchmark on my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro is better (previously had a KD-7 with an XP 1900) but not markedly so.

Would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Hello

I believe that the order of install is...

Windows XP
SERVICE PACK 1 <<<< important that this is applied BEFORE... nForce_2.03_WinXP_localized_WHQL.exe <<< Available from... http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=nforce_udp_winxp_2.03

When using the above driver it seems to be preferred to NOT use the enhanced IDE driver that is given as an option to install.

USB 2 support is already there within XP and unless the SATA or the Ethernet port is enabled no other drivers as such are needed for the motherboard.

Plug n Play OS set to NO within the bios along with APIC set to ON.

Now unless someone can help you differently in your current position, and depending what other applications you have installed as well etc, I would go back to a system restore to when XP was first installed and then apply Service Pack 1. Then continue from there.

As for your query regarding a AGP driver within the System Devices all that I see is....

NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge.

However under Device Manager I then see under Display adapters the reference to an AGP card.

You could get hold of...

http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php

AIDA32 which should give you a lot more information to identify if you have an issue with your driver installation.

Also

http://www.h-oda.com/

WCPUID should identify what your AGP is running at - eg mine is 8x.

The agp driver is listed under System Information/Software Environment/Drivers and the Nvidia driver is NV_agp.sys If it's installed it'll be there.
