A new problem:

Trying to turn off my NF7-S via the Windows XP soft - sequence:
START - TURN OFF COMPUTER - TURN OFF

Gets me into a loop...rather than sutting off it goes to a complete sequence of restarting.... and gets me back to the Desktop...

What is going on....?? (I can shutt off by holding the Front Panel ON_OFF switch for severla seconds, but any attempts to do it as explained above, - do not help...

Thanks.

It's most likely a Windows problem, not an NF7-S bug. Search the MS Knowledge Base for articles on troubleshooting Win XP shutdown problems. It's probably a driver or application that is taking too long to quit.

It's quite likely a power supply problem. Are you using a modern P4-ready psu, with the latest bios.

I belive that I found the reason for the problem !! :

I had loaded the computer with the utilities provided on the ABIT CD which came with the NF7-S.

Now I decided to try and remove these utilities one by one (via the:
Start > Contol Panel > System > Add/Reomove).

First I removed the ABIT utility (don't recall the name....) which places the little "blue" icon guy nect to the clock at the bottom right of the Desktop Screen. No effect on my problem....

Then I went back and removed the ABIT Utilities which are supposed to enhance the Windows XP (don't recall their names either...)

Now the system could turn-off and on with no problem. However .... - I lost the Network connection too (Apparently one of the utilities controls the on board Network interface...?

I then went to: Start> Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager >Network Adapters and looked inside just to find that there is a Yellow "X" on the Nvida Network adapter.

I Right Clicked on it and was prompted for an in stallation of the Driver from my original (ABIT) CD. Did that, and got my Network back again. Now the Systems Shuts off fine !!

Apparently some of the other Utilities provided by ABIT decided to fight Bill Gates.... :-)

Hope this helps anyone here who might have experienced this problem !

Until the next problem....

Hi,

good to see you fixed the problem. I didn't have anything like that happen yet and I am still using all the drivers that came from my ABIT CD. . .

I see that you are using BIOS #14.

I can't see where is the version of my BIOS...??

On the first "blue" screen of the BIOS, just under the horizontal and vertical arrows, I seewritten: (nVidia-nForce-6A61BA1BC-17)

Does it mean that my BIOS # is 17...???

Yes. That is the BIOS version number. 17 is fine; unless you have problems related to what is fixed in the current BIOS, 18, 17 runs fine. Here is a list of what each version fixes and links to D/L them if wanted:
