Onboard sound for Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

I'm having trouble with the above motherboard's onboard sound. Basically, any speakers with an external power supply work 100% fine, anything without it (i.e. headphones) has poor sound quality and is far too soft. I'm assuming that this is because insufficient power is being delivered to the headphones. Is there any way to remedy this? Please help! I can't afford a sound card, and need headphones for LANs.
