The ECS P4M800PRO-M socket 478 motherboard has a VT8237 SouthBridge.
The Audio drivers can be downloaded from the ViaArena driverpages:
The Dos Audio driver for the AC '97 from

Read that page carefully otherwise you might miss it has an audidriver
for the AC '97 audio on the VT8237 SB
For use with the following Product/s:

VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT82C686A/B South Bridges ( VT82C686A
    VT82C686B )
    VIA AC97 codecs incorporated into VT8233, VT8233A, VT8233C, VT8235 and
    VT8237/R South Bridges ( VT8237 VT8235
    VT8233/VT8233A/VT8233B/VT8235/VT8237 VT1612A VT8233/A/C VT8235CE )
    VIA Vinyl audio codecs: VT1612A VT1613 VT1616 VT1617 VT1618 ( VT1616
    VT1612A VT1617 VT1613 )
    VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT8231 South Bridge ( VT8231 )
    VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT8251 South Bridge ( VT8251 )

    ECS has a motherboard driverpage:
    It has amongst others:
Driver Name: RealTek Codec Sound on board driver
    Version: 3.86(6060)
    Release Date: 2006/04/13
I don't think it is for Dos too!

    Hello Eric P
Thank you very much for the links, but those are the wrong drivers.
My old M/B was a MSI K7T Turbo2, wich did use the Via drivers, did try them.
    My current M/B is a Ecs P4M800PRO-M a Lga775 board.
    VT8237 Southbridge.
    Realtek AC'97 2.3 spec.
16-bit Stereo full-duplex CODEC with 48KHz sampling rate.
    Direct Sound 3D tm compatible.

I did read in a few forums there are a lot of people looking for DOS
    drivers, but no answers.

The solution here is for you to just buy a soundcard that has DOS drivers
    available !

Forget about the onboard sound - you need an add-in PCI soundcard !
