Resolved: got it to boot in safe mode with vga... then got it to accept the things I turned off in sysconfig.. then got windows error reporting to work, and got it to load new ATI drivers.. and it was the graphics drivers after all ! Now working sweet. Only took me 3 full days to get a new primary sata drive cloned, sp2 loaded, and the new graphics driver working.. Whew..
