Hi. I am using an Asus P5W DH with a E6600 Core 2 duo. I have been looking around these forums and others and the general concensus seems to be that the typical temp of the cores as reported by the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool or "core temp" should be in the range of 35-45 at idle. However mine is more like 53 (or even higher if the cpu fan is set for "qmode"). I have just the standard intel heatsink / fan combo.... and my question is this... should I have used heatsink compound under the HSF? It does not say to do so in the manual so I did not... Would I see much better results from a better HSF?

    cheers, OzJim..
