    Hi all,

This is a new system that I just built last week and the specs are:
    Gigabyte 7N400-L1
    AMD 2500+
    Kingston DDR 256 Mb (333)
    Leadtek Winfast 64Mb GeForce4 AGP 8
LG CDrom, Floppy, ATA-133 WD Harddrive
Operating system: WinXP, Mandrake Linux 9.0

I power on my system and it works fine. Ran several burn-in programs and
they all passed. No system instability.

However, after about 5mins, when I restart , the PC apparently just hangs
with no video output. Before that, there is no problems with restarting.
    The sequence of events are:
    - Hit restart in WinXP
    - Monitor signal goes off, CDrom spins a little, HD light flashes once,
no audible beeps, no power to keyboard
    - Press the reset button -> nothing comes up
    - Wait and press the rest button -> WinXP comes up

I suspect one of a few things:
    - RAM issue
    - power supply
    - heatsink

My stats on the PC during the problem is as below:
    Vcore 1.678V
    DDR25V 2.624V
    +3.3V 3.344V (*)
    +5V 5.184V
    +12V 12.044V (*)
    System temp 27 C
    CPU 33 C
    Fan speed 4115 (*)

    (*) are constantly moving

Can anybody see a problem to this or need more info?

    Thanks in advance,
    Charles

Over the weekend, I took the PC back to the shop and was surprised to find
how helpful they were although the problem is still there. I am taking the
PC back again. Here's what we did:
    - changed RAM -> same problem
    - changed power supply -> curious obversation

    (first change)
    - remove old power supply
    - refitted new power supply
    - turned machine on
    - nothing happened --> power supply dead

    (second change)
    - disconnected power supply
    - did not fit new power supply, kept the new power supply separated from
    the case
    - turned machine on --> works really well (restarted various times with
    no problems)
    - refitted the new power supply into the case --> stopped working

The shop owner suggested I reinstalled the OS as I had dual boot Windows &
Linux on it. Tried it, and had same problems. When installing windows XP
and it had to restart, the PC never came back (although the power light was
still on). Then, I installed Linux and shortly after that, the whole PC
could not come back up. Power light came on but nothing on the screen.

I suspect that there might be some thing which is causing problems to the
power supply. Perhaps a short of some sort. The case is new.

    regards, Charles
