I have a Dell Poweredge 2300 with dual PIII-500 Xeons. It has two Quantum Atlas IV 9.1G SCSI hard drives. I've been running different Linux distros on this machine without problem for a couple of years. 5 or 6 months ago, I had what looked like a hard system crash forcing a reboot. When the system was supposed to find the 2 drives during boot, one drive was missing. After this when I booted the computer after leaving it off for a few minutes it would properly find the 2 drives. If I immediately rebooted, the drive would once again be missing. I removed the drive and have been running without problems on just the one drive. Recently that drive began displaying the same symptoms. Upgrading the system BIOS and firmware has not fixed this. I can boot the computer with a Knoppix disk and can see the data on the 2 drives. Anyone heard of this? Is there a way to fix the drives? Thanks.
