I sent this same mail to abit support team in the UK so while awaiting fdor there reply I am posting my problem here so someone might know the solution!

Dear Sir,

I purchased an ABIT NF7-S on Friday from Komplett.ie and have been trying to install it and getting running week end.

My new configuration is as follows:

Abit NF7-S (2.0) MoBo

AMD 2.5 Barton

3200 DDRAM TwinMos

Seagate BarracudaIV 7200

VGA ATI Radeon 8500

QTech Ultra quiet PSU 300 W

I can not even get to the BIOS screen when starting the PC! The system speaker (Lian Li Case) starts beeping. It is not a constant beep but it starts as soon as the power button is turned on, it goes on for about 2 seconds, than a pause of about 4 seconds takes place and it beeps again and so it goes.

I have tried different combinations, checked every single contact a few times but I can not get rid of the problem. The HD does not show any signs of activity when doing so and again the screen doesn't even come on. The HD and VGA are working fine on my old configuration.

I would be very happy if you could offer a solution to my problems even though I am aware it is very hard to diagnose errors when the unit is not physically present at your service.

Regards,

Agron

Enkidu, thanks for the prompt reply. I am trying toi determine what category could/would the beeps I am experiencing fall into. One short beep (high pitched), than a pause (Longer than the duration of the original beep) followed by an original beep and it goes on like a vicious circle. The CPU seems to be fiting fine and the cooler working. I have double checked the memory and it is fitted in OK.

Hi,
I am looking at a new build based on a NF7-S and Barton 2500+ also, sorry to hear you been having problems. I'm not sure what the problem could be but my first hunch would be something to do with:

a) Maybe you have not constructed the hardware correctly (I'm sure you know what your doing, but sometimes we all make mistakes!) is the CPU properly inserted and are your memory modules correctly seated? b) Your PSU is not good enough c) Your memory is disagreeing wit the mobo (somehow try some different sticks)

d) You have been subjected to a E.M.P blast (Matrix style) and you indeed may have a dead mobo?

Let us know how u get on. .

I just read that one long beep means that the m/b doesn't like your ram. ( This may not be correct - i read it on the internet...) If you have more than 1 stick of ram, try one only and see how you get on.

Some m/b require ram to be inserted in pairs in the right slots. have you done so? Try following instructions for clearing your cmos - on an IC7 you pull out the mains plug and move the cmos jumper to the alternate position for 1 minute, move it back and try again - PLEASE check your manual for the method for NF7.

Thanks Tim,
I checked the processor in another Motherboard and it worked fine today. The only thing remaining to check are the MoBo itself and the memory stiucks. It is not very likely that both sticks could be damaged.

It seems there is a faulty batch of them around. I am applyingfor a RMA just now and will have it in the post on Friday. This time I want my money back and I will get an Epox, MSI or Chieftech (nVidia2)
