hi all, just a quick question for choosing RAM.

    what would be faster?

    PC3200 memory, CAS=3...
    or PC2700 memory, CAS=2.5?

depends. it depends on whether you can overclock or not and whether the ram
can be set to a higher ratio such as 4:5 to increase the ram bus speed. in
theory the PC3200 ram might be faster but that assumes that you can take
advantage of the faster ram by raising the ram bus speed with a ratio like
    the one above.

also, frequently, the ram timings such as the CAS 3 can be run tighter than
what the vendor says so your CAS 3 ram might be able to be run at 2.5. of
course, the vendor won't guarantee that you can run the timings faster than
    what it is rated at...

    so, you see, it depends.

Would be helpful to know what type of ram. As Tom's post suggests, brand and
quality matter much more than any (often bogus) numerical rating.

Why not get the good stuff? It doesn't cost much more.

Crucial/Micron PC3200 will run great on that board. It's rated CAS 3 but
will easiliy run 2.5 at 200 mhz and above.

A 256-meg stick is $56 with free shipping if you use this link:
