Random beeps on IS7

I'm experiencing an annoying problem with my new PC built around the IS7. It doesn't seem to matter what settings I use - the speaker beeps randomly. It's not a heat alarm, just the occasional beep... two different tones.

I have a P4 2.6 clocked at 3185 (FSB = 245). Voltages are: CPU - 1.50
RAM - 2.6
AGP - 1.55
PCI Bus = 68/34.
Memory is 5:4 and set to By Spd (2,7,3,3). Running two OCZ 3200 Rev 3.2 256mb DIMMS.

Temps are: CPU - 60 (full load), PWM - 40-60, Case - 31.

BIOS is 1.5. I'll try flashing to 1.6 after I install a floppy drive. :)

Any ideas? I'm tempted to just remove the piezo speaker and be done with it.

the interesting there here is that a two tone beep is, indeed, a heat or voltage alarm. you absolutely sure that you aren't hitting a peak that could be triggering a short alarm? go into the bios settings and disable
*all* of the temperature monitoring and alarms in the bios and monitor with Motherboard Monitor as opposed to Hardware Doctor and see if that helps.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply.

It was very strange - yes, it's a two beep tone, but it's not like an alarm tone. Sometimes it'd just be the one tone that'd repeat every so often, then the other tone would kick in. They even overlapped and played at the same time.

I'm already using MBM, but you were on the right track. I forgot that I recently turned on the CPU FanEQ Speed Control feature. After seeing a post on the Abit web-based forum, I turned it off again. Now no more beeping, and I can achieve my desired overclock: 250 FSB.

interesting. I run the FanEQ enabled on my IC7-G and do not have any problems. I have not enabled that feature on the IS7-G I have. glad you got it sorted...

On a related subject, Hardware Doctor has a hard time figuring out how fast the TMD fan on my Vantec Aeroflow cooler is running. It jumps around a lot, but averages 5000k+ rpm, which is about right.

Last night when the PC woke from standby, the alarm started sounding like an ambulance on a code-blue run. Turns out HD thought the cpu cooler was turning at 8000+ rpm and wanted to warn me of imminent lift-off ;>)

Another TMD "feature" is that on a cold morning it can take a few seconds to spin up to speed. It's not enough of a delay to be dangerous, but it can and has triggered the auto-shutdown option in the bios -- which I finally turned off.

The Aeroflow works great, but the fan design is quirky. I trust it, but have to count on my ears and the cpu temp alarm to let me know if it ever fails.

not too sure I could be comfortable with that fan but each to their own. I don't run Hardware Doc. as I have been a happy Motherboard Monitor fan for some years now.
