random loss of sound

  1. how's it going?
    i have a Turtle Beach Montego MPU-401 sound card. the problem is this:
    no matter what tasks i'm performing, the sound just randomly cuts out.
    it's gone. game audio doesn't work, Winamp doesn't work, even Windows
    sounds are gone. it's been plaguing me for a while. it seems that it
    only happens around the time i'm doing something audio intensive
    (UT2K3, Q3A, a lot of Winamp play), but not until i've gotten into it.
    figures, right? i have no idea what could be causing such an annoying
    problem. i'm running Windows 98SE, NVidia GeForce, anybody have ideas?
