Remove an entry from the Launchservices database?

Discussion in 'Apple' started by Christoph Gartmann, May 14, 2007.

  1. Hello,

is it possible to remove an entry from the launchservices database? If so, how?

Under Tiger all files with an extension of ".xyz" are opened by a specific
application, e.g. Excel in my case. Sometimes in the past I sat the checkbox
at "always open with" in the "open with..." dialog. But this was by mistake. I
would like to revert this back to "none".

    Regards,
    Christoph Gartmann

Does the Finder's "Info" window not allow you to change this? In the
Finder, select a file with the ".xyz" filename extension, then choose
File > Get Info from the Finder menu bar.
