Ok, I have already given up on the idea of having my IC7-G work with a RAID of 2x 120GB Seagate barracuda IV's..

I've reset the disks to non raid in th Bios then come out and started to install windows again, and one disk reports 240GB (it's a 120gb drive)

It shows, in the partition manager of XP installer, as;

disk 0 at blah blah..

unformatted space 20,000
unformatted space 220,000
(why does it have two unformatted space regions which i don't seem to be able to alter??)

disk 1 at..

unformatted space 120,000.

Ah, always the way, search for an answer for ages, then the moment you post for help you find it yourself..

For reference for any others with this problem.

I found that once XP was installed, the disk management app was able to delete the incorrect partition on the drive and it appears to be fine now.

don't know why you gave up on the raid but with the raid bios enabled, you can boot to a floppy and run FDISK or another drive utility and try to get rid of any partitions on the drive.

did you delete the raid array using the raid bios before trying to move on without raid?

Hi Tom, thank you for the response.. I was in a little bit of panic when i set it up, (new to raid).

My reasons for giving up on the raid were that i could not successfully install XP (small hidden quirks Ie not working as it should, user account applet none-functional) with the raid enabled. Also in the short time that i had it it 'broke' on boot up a high proportion of the time, a search of the net found that there were others with problems on barracuda IV RAID so hence i gave up.. unfortunate really as i had only just bought the 2 HD for that specific reason.. :(

Moss.

with the newest bios and matching drivers, I've had good luck with it for the most part. Once or twice, I have had the raid "break" with the ability to correct that using the raid bios and I agree that is unsettling. maybe on down the road you can revisit raid when you feel it is a good time for you...
