Resetting the "Open With" contextual menu?

The "Open With" function in the "right-click" contextual menu works just
fine on my MacBook running OS 10.4.11 -- except that menu itself (or
whatever file is behind it) never seems to get cleaned out or reset.

For each app in the menu there are between 3 and a dozen identical
listings, any or all of which seem to work just fine. The number of
listings for a given app doesn't seem to go up by one every time I
invoke that app; but it never seems to go down either.

Is there a name for, or a way to find, the file that holds this list?
Or, a way to clean it out and reset it to empty?

    Thanks . . .
