I've been trying off and on to upload the handful of software updates
needed for my new powerbook. Some I eventually managed to get, but all
have been slow and most have timed out. Today I tried getting the main
one (OSX 10.4.4 combined) directly through Safari from Apple's website,
rather than using Software Update. While it is going slower than I
like (averaging only 17 KB/sec -- I should get somewhere around 25K on
my DSL line) at least it is going steady, unlike SU. I did see an
earlier thread about problems with slow updates, but those seemed to
    involve Safari too. Any clues?
